California Poppy

I am a fourth generation Californian and the 8th child of 12. I have pretty much enjoyed good health. A few months before I received the invitation to join the WHI study, my doctor suggested I try taking Estrogen. I thought about it but didn't consent to it so when I received the invitation to join the hormone study, it would give me a chance to test it even though I would knot know if I was receiving the actual drug or a placebo. As I participated in the study I was asked to participate in the nutrition, calcium, memory and the last study was macular degeneration study, which my husband has. It didn't take any more time to participate in all these studies and my feeling is whatever is discovered in these studies would help future generations of women. I have daughters, grand-daughters and great-grand-daughters and my continuing the studies may someday help them. The staff was always great. They did everything to make me feel comfortable. Once I started the study, it never occurred to me to quit as long as my health was good. Once I start something. like to see it through. I also have Alzheimer's, heart disease, diabetes and strokes in my family and it was important to me to see if I was going to be a candidate for any of these ailments. Since I have been in the study, I seem to have more energy and a feeling of accomplishment. At eighty years old, I still have very good health and I would recommend it to anyone who would have the opportunity to participate in a study like this. It was fun as well as informative and I thank my husband for being very supportive. THANK YOU FOR THE OPPORTUNITY.
