Let me begin by saying I am NOT a hero. I have not done anything great or noble for the world or mankind in general. Many times I have read about studies that have been ongoing for years and that valuable health information was gathered from its outcome. I always wondered "how do you become a part of something as important as that?" Then one day, a number of years ago, I found an envelope in my mail from the WHI Study. After reading its contents, I thought, “this is how I can invest a part of me that might help my daughters-in-law and granddaughters, or sisters somewhere down the line.” That was my introduction to WHI. Even though I've only been a part of the observational group I hope with all my heart that the information gathered from this study will be helpful in the ongoing battle against the dreadful beast known as CANCER.
Having been in the healthcare profession for over 20 years, I have met, come to love and lost many HEROES. It is in their memory I have been a part of this wonderful group.
