I joined the Women's Health Initiative Study when I was living in Chicago in the mid-1990's. The project was attractive to me because there had been little research specifically based on women. I had read research gleaned from the Nurse's Longitudinal study and was excited that I might contribute to another study using a more diverse group of subjects.

WHI became more important to me when I was diagnosed with breast cancer in August 2000 and my daughter was also diagnosed with breast cancer in September of the same year. We are both cancer free today and training for the Danskin Triathlon in Seattle August 18. It is my hope that by participating in this study, I can contribute information to help researchers better understand the female body and thus provide information to enable women to live long, healthful, productive lives.

I am a quilter and a gardener. This block represents both of these interests. The fabrics were selected from my stash today. Another day the choice may have been different.
