I am the WHI Clinic Manager of the Evanston Clinical Center, the satellite center to Chicago Northwestern. I heard about the Women's Health Initiative research study and applied for a position very early, even prior to the start of recruitment of study participants in the Chicago metropolitan area. From my first day working on this study, June 22, 1993, I have been committed to helping answer questions posed by this research study. My motivation for the work I do is to help all women but especially the most important young women in my life. They are my daughter, Jennifer, my granddaughter, Katherine (Katie), my daughter-in-law Rebecca and my niece and goddaughter, Amy Elizabeth.

My quilt square comes from my granddaughter Katie's request for a quilt for her new doll bed. She wanted something pink with rosebuds. I collected several fabrics I though she might like. With her great eye for color, she selected the fabrics, one of which is the solid pink found in the squares. That fabric is from a skirt of my daughter, Jennifer, Katie's aunt. That relationship and fabric make the quilt very special to Katie. While working on the little quilt for Katie, I reflected on all the (family) females who are somehow connected to this piece including my mother who taught me to sew and my sister, who heightened my feminist conscience. To them and to all women, this quilt represents lives committed to improving women's health.
