When an invitation was received to join the WHI research study, I was most interested and thought that I could help make a contribution. However, the knowledge and the health benefits that I have derived have been significant.

Family History:

My maternal grandmother, Karolina, died of cancer at age 37. My mother, Carolyn, was diagnosed with colon cancer 47 years ago. She had a colostomy then and she is now 93 years old and doing very well.

My oldest son, George, is an Orthopaedic Surgeon and researcher at the Cleveland Clinic, Ohio. My youngest son, John, is a breast cancer researcher at the California Pacific Medical Center.

The square was sewn by my paternal grandmother, Annie, perhaps 90 - 100 years ago. I adapted the square by eliminating the points and meeting the specifications for the WHI Quilt.
